2024 "Learn Chinese by Singing" Event Overview

1) Who Can Participate?
Universities, colleges, primary and secondary schools, Confucius Institutes, Chinese education institutions, cultural and art institutions, Chinese learners, and singing enthusiasts globally are invited. Participants must be non-Chinese nationals and their native language must not be Chinese.
2) How to Participate?
Register on the event website.
Select a song from the provided "Time" playlist.
Submit a short music video and a "Time and Heart" Chinese video to the event website. Submissions without both videos will be disqualified. Note: Chinese short videos will not be judged separately.
3) Song Selection:
Choose from the "Time" playlist available on the event webpage.
Only registered participants can download accompaniment and music scores (up to 3 songs per registrant).
Song availability will update dynamically based on popularity.
4) Music Video Requirements:
Must feature a Chinese song and showcase singing and video creativity.
Performance should be collaborative (duets, choruses, etc.) with optional self-played accompaniment.
Shoot horizontally using a mobile phone or professional equipment. Recommended: use a tripod or stabilizer.
Video must be 1920x1080 resolution, in mp4 or mov. format.
Avoid flags, maps, trademarks, or controversial content.
Include simplified Chinese subtitles and a cover with the song title, composer, original singer, and cover singer’s nationality. Leave the upper right corner of the video blank.
Works must remain unpublished until after the event screening.
5) "Time and Heart Language" Short Video Requirements:
Shoot horizontally.
The singing team should be visible; narration in Chinese is required.
Video must be in mp4 or mov. format, 1920x1080 resolution, and under 3 minutes long.
Content may include team introduction, Chinese learning experience, feelings about the song, reflections on time, or special expressions related to the Confucius Institute or institution’s events.
Avoid flags, maps, and trademarks.
Include simplified Chinese subtitles. Ensure correct self-introduction; leave the upper right corner of the video blank.
6) Schedule:
Registration: September to October 25, 2024
Submission: October 1 to November 15, 2024
Selection: November 15 to December 1, 2024
Screening: December 2024
7) Awards and Prizes:
Shining Awards: Seven individual awards for music videos and an “Excellent Organization Award.”
Exciting Prizes: Music video production equipment such as Bluetooth speakers and camera stabilizers.
In-depth Study: Priority for 2025 Music Study Camp applications.
Media Exposure: Coverage by mainstream media and global platforms.
Future Opportunities: Potential participation in related activities.
